It’s not just about the story but also how it’s told that makes a difference. That’s how a burger saleswoman in Chandigarh, a sarpanch’s second marriage in a village, a massive vacancy of teachers and a drop in demand for dowry, may seem disjointed, but all fall into the same theme, highlighting different facets of a detailed feature I put together to highlight the impact of Haryana’s experiment with new panchayat election rules. I draw from my decade plus experience in TV journalism that has focused on this art of story telling. Having done a wide range of content building across sectors, whether it’s related to politics, development, environment, gender, terror, human rights or policy matters, I believe it’s this learning that has the ability to make a difference. As diverse as this landscape has been over the last decade as an active field journalist, it always came down to one fundamental reality that is the reality of people whose lives are impacted by what happens. Their journey, trials, tribulations, joy and experiences have been the foundation of my work, pushed by the belief that bringing out their stories has the incredible ability not just to inform but also influence change. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing your work make a positive difference to people’s lives.
