About Kevin Alexander

Passionate about agronomics, specifically the biological aspects. My degree and history as a naturalist have led me to hone an eagerness to understand the puzzle that is soil health. While appreciating that soil health, and therefore turf health, is a “three-legged stool”, I apply my specific skills, knowledge, and tenacity to learn to the biological leg. While I feel most qualified to understanding the biology of soil health, as opposed to the physical or chemical aspects, I remain careful to not neglect the other legs and to remain diligent to their importance. What’s the point of building microbial populations if you won’t give them gas exchange capabilities through aeration? As an apprentice in this field that is new to me, I’ve gained an appreciation for the complexity, yet often parsimonious nature, of the turf management industry. Utilizing cutting edge technology to collect data and perform daily tasks has been an exciting venture. Gaining my Commercial Drone License so that I could work directly with Greensight to take daily thermal and plant activity photos of all 24 fields at the Soccerplex is one example. Another example would be becoming proficient with the TurfTank line-marking robot to paint all of our various sports that we host. These advancements in technology make me excited about the future of the industry, and give me an advantage for future innovations as I hope to remain on that cutting edge. Working directly under one of the brightest and innovative minds in the industry, Jerad Minnick, for 2.5 years has provided me invaluable insight and a foundation to further explore the ever-expanding frontier of turf management.
