About Kevin Bates

I am a Company Director with specialist skills in the design of Healthcare, Science & Research Buildings and I lead our Healthcare Sector across the Practice. This role encompasses the design and delivery of some of our most technically challenging projects such as the award-winning, Mater Misericordiae Universtiy Hospital Rock Wing, the Grafton Way Hospital in London, the National Forensics Mental Health Hopsital in Ireland and the Tyndall National Institute, recognized as Europe's leading research center in integrated Information and Communications Technology. My 28 years' experience as a professional architect covers national and international experience, including establishing and managing STW's Middle East office from 2010 to 2014 and as Design Director in our London Practice from 2014 - 2021, where I secured STW's place on the University of Oxford's Framework for large scale projects. In 2013, I was awarded the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland Triennial Gold Medal for excellence in design for the Poustinia Project (as Architects Bates Maher). Presented by the President of Ireland, the RIAI Gold Medal is the highest accolade that a building can be awarded in Ireland. I have also received the Architectural Association of Ireland's Downes Medal and RIAI & RIBA Regional Awards as well as having the Poustinia Project selected for exhibition at the prestigious Mies Van der Rohe Award. I am passionate about supporting and guiding the next generation of architects and I have been a visiting critic at UCC & WIT Schools of Architecture and The School of Architecture in King Saud University, Riyadh.
