About Kevin Brend

My goal as a designer and educator has been to help people discover the multifaceted versions of themselves and find ways to heal and integrate those aspects through explorations in self-discovery and aesthetic philosophy. The goal of my work is to hold space for others to blossom as they discover the intersection of function and beauty that inspires them. To do this also means accepting the vast array of individuals and their needs. My own process of learning to hold and create spaces of inspiration came when I began reframing holistic philosophy: making a holistic framework that is personal enough for one to feel seen and specific enough to be approachable. As both a college and secondary school design instructor, I utilize this holistic approach to education. This means addressing each person as an individual: inquiring about a person’s emotions, goals, beliefs, self-care, and vision for their life. As a designer, the best thing I can do is focus on communication, planning, solving personal questions, and diving into the visualization process. Utilizing my background as a classroom instructor, I have been able to handle these complex layers as second nature now and allow others to jump seamlessly into the process. Throughout my practices, I lean into both quantitative and qualitative data. This mixed-methods approach lends tremendous insight when I begin to triangulate information and align price points, timelines, design philosophy, and the client. Holistically interpreting data helps me clearly inform individuals about the processes and highlights how their goals have been integrated into their end results.
