God I love restaurants. And for more than three decades I’ve worked in them - 27 years of that at the helm of Acme, my restaurant in Carrboro. I still get excited by the camaraderie and common purpose of our team, the many distinct personalities woven together day after day solely to bring this magical thing called hospitality to life. Let me be clear; I didn’t go to cooking school. Or anything remotely like that. I went to UNC as a Morehead-Cain Scholar with the utmost expectation that my future career would have me eating in top tier restaurants and not working in them. But in truth, what the scholarship and the great people at the Morehead-Cain Foundation provided was the confidence to follow my heart. And that led me here, working side by side with this talented group of people who share my vision of strong businesses that are rooted in community and the sincere belief that every day can be extraordinary.
