About Kevin Castro

As an enthusiastic and proficient performer, composer and accompanist, I am highly active in Canada’s vibrant and growing music scene. My artistry has grown over the years from playing cover songs to developing my own unique style. I accomplished creating my own sound by using complex and rich harmonies. I enjoy making each piece my own, ensuring it connects with both the band members and the audience. I have worked tirelessly to garner a broad range of performance experience both at the university and externally, as a professional musician. With regular house gigs, opportunities to tour and freelance while also teaching private lessons at two music schools, my commitment and passion to this career is evident. Within the school environment, I’ve been able to maintain enviable grades and establish powerful relationships with staff and students alike. My work has the appeal of popular music but with the added colourful influences of jazz, latin, soul and blues. I am passionate about playing and feel strongly that how the music resonates with me and then connects with the listener/audience is the most important aspect of any performance. The relationship between the audience and myself, the interaction between the band and myself, and the connection that we all have with the music is paramount to a successful career as a performer.
