Background
About Kevin Crook
I am currently teaching online at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Master's Programs in Data Science and Cybersecurity. My current research focuses on bridging the gap between AI engineers and AI governance professionals by providing training to AI engineers on lightweight yet impactful ways to embed advanced cryptographic workflows into AI model development, ushering in a new era of AI governance rooted in transparency and accountability. These workflows include hashing training data and models at key milestones, anchoring them to public blockchains, and leveraging Merkle proofs for dataset integrity and inclusion verification. The training also introduces quorum-based secret sharing for secure model governance, and advanced zero-knowledge proof techniques, such as building custom circuits in Circom, compiling with SNARKjs, and generating proofs using the Groth16 protocol, to enable privacy-preserving validation at scale. I have also recently proposed a new course in AI Literacy, with a detailed syllabus available on my website kevincrook.com. The course is designed to include custom-written white papers, styled after articles in technical publications like Wired magazine, paired with hands-on labs that feature Python code in interactive Jupyter Notebooks. Although primarily intended for a college freshman audience, the course can be adapted for advanced high school students or as corporate training to help entire IT departments gain a foundational understanding of AI Literacy. My previous work focused on using AI, especially Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI), and Quantum Computing. I explored how GenAI can be utilized to design and generate Quantum Computing circuits, aiming to enhance the efficiency of AI algorithms using Quantum Computing. Essentially using AI to advance AI. I've also worked in applying Quantum Computing to Quantum Cryptography. For teaching purposes, I have developed prototype versions of various Quantum Cryptography applications, including Quantum Blockchain, Quantum Cryptocurrency, Quantum Secret Sharing, Quantum Secure Voting, Quantum Garbled Circuit, and Quantum Key Exchange. Beyond academia, I've offered corporate training classes on AI and GenAI, alongside existing courses on Quantum AI, Mathematical Cryptography, Homomorphic Encryption, and Post Quantum Cryptography. These classes catered to both executives and software engineers, encompassing a range of executive seminars and technical workshops.
