About Kevin Culp

I am a mechanical engineer that is currently working quite outside of my field. Currently in the retention department at DirecTV, it is my job to work and empathize with customers to prove understanding and help them see the value in the product they are receiving to retain their business. Moreover, as management recognizes my technical savvy I have also worked with them on trend recognition and even created and given feedback on small programs to help with day to day work. Everyone always hears about the engineers who can't function around people and handle social situations, but I have been in customer service for nearly 7 years total and have always excelled. During my time at UAHuntsville I worked on numerous projects and always took a lead role. One of my favorite projects that I worked on was during what is typically a senior design class my team got the honor of doing many points of analysis on the Gemini capsule that was forgone at the time of launch to make it the first manned craft in space. While I was making sure to see and check the work of all my fellow classmates, my personal job was to perform all the calculations involved in the attitude control system particularly the thrust of the individual engines and the fuel flow system. While at UAHuntsville I was also a member of the Formula SAE car team and assisted in the construction of the chassis. I used solid works during this time to create patterns for the tubing that we used to cut and shape it. During this time, I also got the opportunity to learn tig and mig welding and did a lot of the cutting and manufacturing myself on the chassis. It is my goal to find a job in my field and get back to using my education to further myself in life with a career that has room for personal and professional growth.
