About Kevin Daniel

I was born and raised on Lake Erie, in the heart of Cleveland, Ohio. My interest in environmental science began in the fall of 2015 when I had the opportunity to help distribute relief products during the Flint water crisis in Flint, Michigan. Through that experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the disparities affecting people of color and low-income communities—disparities that are present both in the community I grew up in and the one I was visiting. It opened my eyes to the generational disconnects in environmental literacy that exist in many homogenous communities. Inspired by that volunteer experience, I pursued a B.S. degree in Water Resources Management at Central State University, starting in the fall of 2018. After completing my degree in May 2021, I immediately began working as a Lab Analyst paraprofessional in wastewater, while also teaching STEM education to students in grades K–8. I aspire to build a career focused on environmental science literacy, with the goal of creating sustainability and environmental science curricula to be implemented in public education. In addition to developing curriculum, I plan to work hands-on in wastewater management to gain the technical knowledge and real-world experience necessary to inspire and effectively teach the masses. When I’m not busy learning or teaching, I enjoy roller skating and exploring different world cultures.
