I am an estate planning lawyer in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado. Over the last ten years, my practice has taken a lot of twists and turns, which has given me experience in a lot of different areas of law. However, I have recently found a new passion for estate planning, which consists of primarily advising and counseling clients on wills, trusts, powers of attorney and living wills, and I have focused my practice primarily on estate planning. As a component of estate planning, I am also working more and more in the area of probate and estate administration. Although many people think of estate planning primarily in terms of their own purposes and mortality, the reality is that estate planning is more often an act of compassion and kindness towards their friends, family and caretakers. By setting up an estate plan, my clients are determining for themselves, their friends, family and caretakers what will happen to them and their property in the event and/or eventuality of a catastrophe leading to incapacity and/or death. As a result, their family, friends, and caretakers can manage the emotional and physical toll of such an event without having to worry unnecessarily about the legal set up because that aspect has already been taken care of. Another aspect of estate planning that I love is watching my clients walk out of my office visibly lighter once we have signed their documents. When people do not have a plan in place and whether they realize it or not, they walk around carrying the weight of not being certain and/or not knowing what will happen to them or their family if something catastrophic should befall them. But, once they have been through the estate planning process with me and they have set their plans to paper, the weight lifts and they find peace of mind.
