About Kevin Larson

As a youth and community resource worker with McMan Youth and Family Services I help to provide support and guidance to youth. I accomplish this through guided management of substance abuse issues, mental health and other trauma-related issues. The C.A.R.E. philosophy and harm reduction approach figures prominently in all of my daily interactions with clients. As an Addiction and Mental Health Recovery Worker with AHS or Alberta Health Services I contribute to the delivery of community based services to persons with a chronic addiction and/or severe and persistent mental illness using psychosocial rehabilitation principles, promoting client respect, autonomy and improved quality of life. I was previously employed as an Employment Coach and Counselor with the Power of Work program at Goodwill Industries of Alberta, Canada. Prior to that I was an Employment Counselor with Goodwill Industries of New England - Workforce Solutions in the USA. I also enjoyed working to improve the lives of juvenile offenders at risk as a Juvenile Program Worker with the State of Maine Department of Corrections. While there I helped to ensure the dignity, confidentiality and safety of juveniles brought into the detention facility. I helped to process new intakes into the system and provided sound supervision during transport, visitation, recreation, and educational programming. Where I got my start was when I proudly served as both an Institutional Officer and a Diversion Officer with the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department in Houston, Texas USA. My duties started with preparing court reports on juveniles prior to adjudication. Interviewing family members, school officials and law enforcement. I diverted juvenile offenders whenever possible to alternative treatment and/or deferred prosecution. My specialties include discovering the greatness within all of us. I enjoy making lemonade out of lemons.
