About Kevin Lawrence

I possess undergraduate (Rutgers ‘76) and graduate (Michigan State ‘78) degrees in forest management. I began a 37-year career with the U.S. Forest Service in 1978. During my career I worked in a professional capacity on national forests in West Virginia, New Hampshire, Michigan, and Kentucky. Responsibilities during that time included timber management, strategic land management planning, and environmental law and regulation compliance. The last 10 years of my career were spent at the National Headquarters in Washington, D.C. working in the area of administrative and judicial reviews of public appeals, objections, and lawsuits against the agency. I led reviews of large-scale Forest Service decisions and reported my teams’ findings to Forest Service and USDA leadership, and at times to Congressional members and staffers. I was also directly responsible for drafting federal regulations covering administrative review procedures. After retirement in 2015 I have worked periodically as an independent consultant for a contracting firm, performing primarily technical editing of Forest Service technical guidance documents.
