About Kevin Matz

I’m an enthusiastic software engineering manager with experience leading both development teams and professional services projects. I’m passionate about building, motivating, and supporting technical teams to efficiently design and build effective solutions and deliver great customer experiences. I have particularly thrived in startups and small businesses where the software engineering manager role is very broad and I wear many hats at once, including people management, project management, product management, process and quality management, and technical architecture. Highly organized, I’m very proactive in driving process improvement initiatives (e.g, systematizing processes into checklists which can then be delegated or automated), and the combination of lightweight specification techniques with agile scheduling has proven to be one of my secret weapons for delivering great results. I believe strongly in the importance of intentionally building and fostering a strong team culture and I aim to motivate through what I call “inspirational leadership” – providing servant-leadership empowerment to the team while aiming to serve as a role model of good character with expertise, behaviors and achievements that people are inspired to emulate. I have thrived in bringing order to chaotic small business environments and have been praised both for calmness while resolving a crisis, as well as for putting systems and practices in place to prevent crises.
