About Kevin McFadden

With over 15 years of teaching experience I am an expert in creating and delivering impactful resources, tailored to diverse needs. I have developed curricular across a number of subjects, proving myself to be adaptable to institutional needs. My work as an examiner has helped develop my skills as an assessor working to specific criteria, but also in my understanding of how differing writing styles are able to communicate effectively. This in turn has helped me to work with individuals to pursue their ambition effectively. My enthusiasm for creativity is at the heart of everything I do, and I like to bring my passion for storytelling, the visual arts and music into my practice. In practical work I help learners develop an eye for detail and an understanding of how each choice changes what is being communicated - I encourage them to take no aspect of production for granted; nothing is there simply because it is. I encourage a fearless approach, giving learners the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. I have created a range of AV texts to help celebrate achievements in my school, as well as creative projects to develop learner skills. Many of my students have gone to excel in higher education and take on careers in the media industries, and I am proud to have worked with so many outstanding people and help them on their journey. As a team leader I have excellent communication skills, taking the time to listen to the needs of my team and find ways to develop a route for them that aligns with the needs of the team. I am comfortable working with seasoned professionals and maximising their experience, as well as taking a mentor role for less experienced colleagues. When called upon I have stepped into the role of Head of Drama, mentoring a member of the team, developing their skills until they were ready to step up. I am adaptable in my approach, having worked with new specifications, shifting Ofsted expectations, new directives and an ever shifting cultural and technological landscape. I thrive on these challenges and enjoy finding new and interesting approaches. I approach my work with a seriousness that is balanced by good humour and a desire for everyone involved to enjoy what they do whilst having the best opportunity to achieve their full potential.
