About Kevin Moquist

Presently, I am the BDO Central Region & Upstate New York Alliance Partner working with BDO Alliance firms in the Great Lakes, Ohio Valley, Midwest & Upstate New York regions and the BDO USA offices in the Central region. Previously, I was the Office Managing Partner of Tax for the Minneapolis office of BDO USA since the expansion of BDO into Minnesota in 2013. My prior experience includes being the Managing Partner of MTK since inception and leading our firm through mergers in 2004 and 2009. In 2013, I led our firm's efforts to combine via BDO USA, LLP's expansion into Minnesota; i.e. the #5 firm internationally in terms of revenue size. My experience combines 30 years of service in business and taxation services for start-ups, emerging and established clients in a broad cross-section of industries. I have a background with closely held businesses which includes business formation and structuring entities properly to minimize overall taxes and the successful coordination of planning between closely held businesses and their shareholders. This expertise extends to Fortune 500 executives regarding integrated planning with exercising trades of non-qualified and incentive stock options, and strategies to minimize Alternate Minimum Tax. I’ve been successful consulting with general business matters of closely held business with regard to buy-sell matters, admitting and exiting shareholders, and other general business matters. This includes significant experience assisting in developing a growth oriented culture at MTK and navigating change in conjunction with numerous business partners through our successful CPA firm mergers.
