About Kevin Murphy

My passion is helping to make positive change happen. That has led to a diverse range of career roles. First as a professional musician in London, co-founding ground-breaking groups such as Orbestra - then to Music55-7 as an Artistic Director, to Voluntary Arts Ireland as their Chief Officer and now to The Playhouse Derry as CEO. I am driven in the end by ideas - if I feel the idea will make a real difference and that I can contribute to it then I am compelled to get involved. I want to build things I believe in with others. My current role with The Playhouse gives me the opportunity to engage with both the locality and people of the North West of the island of Ireland and important global narratives around art making, peace building and social change. I work with a highly creative team and together we provide a space for people to make meaning together As a voluntary director of Wall2Wall Music I am also involved in a range of community music, music education and cross-artform initiatives that seek to engage people in exploring their own creativity. I believe that having space in your life for creativity is vital. My family plays a major role so being a good example and achieving a life well-lived are ultimately what I am after.
