About Kevin Olson

Significant college-level teaching in Communications, Theater and Film. Extensive and diverse background in non-profit administration and program development. In 2013, I established First Hand Theatrical and have created to date five new scripts for the company. This new company creates original theater productions using primary source material drawn from diverse cultural and social histories. For over 20 years, I worked in non-profit and arts administration serving in a variety of positions from the Departmental to Executive levels. I received a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Theater Directing from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Specialties: Directing plays; teaching theater, film courses communications and public speaking; arts administration; non-profit management; fund raising; visioning Currently, I serve as a Lecturer at the University of Rhode Island (U.R.I.) and Adjunct Faculty at the Providence College, Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) and New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) teaching courses in Theater, Film and Communication. Previously, I have served on the Theater Department faculty at Hope College in Holland, Michigan and at the University of Michigan, Flint. I have directed many plays including productions with Actor’s Theater of St. Paul, Park Square Theater, University of Minnesota Theater, Hope College Theater, The Minnesota Jewish Theater Company, and The Lark Theater. I received a Twin Cities Drama Critics Circle KUDOS Award for Brian Friel’s Translations at University of Minnesota Theater. Most recently the company I founded, First Hand Theatrical, presented plays at Artists Exchange in Cranston, R.I. and at 95 Empire Black Box in Providence.
