About Kevin Osborn

I have dedicated my life's work and career to leveraging my privilege and influence on behalf of improving and changing the lives of ALL STUDENTS not just a select few. As a political science and economics teacher in 1997, I co-authored a charter school application to turn Helix High School into the first comprehensive charter school in the State of California. Our charter efforts were focused on providing the Helix school community the autonomy necessary to implement systems change in order to serve ALL STUDENTS well. All too often the status quo forces in public education protect WHAT IS instead of truly pursuing WHAT CAN and SHOULD BE. For over 20 years as a public school administrator, I have dedicated my time and energies toward identifying opportunities to implement systems change focused on providing ALL STUDENTS powerful learning experiences that enable them to gain the knowledge, skills, insights, and dispositions that transform their relationship to self, others, and the world. As the Executive Director of Helix Charter High School, I am focused on empowering our staff, faculty, and school community to exam and reflect on our current system and educational program and to implement systems change through effective observation, reflection, collaboration, and innovation. Our school community continually examines our school system for institutional practices that perpetuate the attitude, opportunity, and achievement gaps so prevalent in comprehensive public high schools in our nation. We aspire to create a school system that: believes in ALL STUDENTS ability and right to learn, provides ALL STUDENTS opportunities and access to world class curriculum, instruction, and support, and achieves equitable outcomes for ALL STUDENTS regardless of their circumstances. As co-founder of Equitable Education Systems (EQED Systems), our consulting firm is dedicated to helping comprehensive high schools and districts pursue equitable outcomes for ALL of their STUDENTS. We provide expertise in all aspects of systems change management in comprehensive high schools. Our firm supports comprehensive high schools and districts examination and reflection of their current institutional practices and student outcomes, development and implementation of systems change focused on addressing inequitable institutional practices and outcomes, and ongoing support and refinement of new systems and practices to maximize equitable student outcomes.
