Creativity and technical knowledge are important when designing great landscapes. Fitting all the needs and wants of the client, and following rules and by-laws imposed by the authorities, creates an interesting and sometime difficult puzzle! These puzzles are the puzzles that I love to solve. Landscape architectural design is both creative and technical, both an art form and a science. I have a great interest in nature, plants and edibles. A landscape can be both beautiful and productive. It can be a source of relaxing, food, and social gathering. I have a great interest in the skills of our fore-fathers and mothers. People that lived off the land, respected the land, as it was their only means of survival. Historical building techniques have outlast our modern skills. Structures that have stood the test of time, yet no nails can be found, just strength and longevity in the details. By studying these techniques, and knowing today's methods, we can create better and longer lasting projects - good technical knowledge and the strive to always learn from both my peers and our collective history. From my experience and observation, I have a good understanding how a project will be built and maintained over time. How the water, air, people, will flow through a space.
