About Kevin Shields

Web-developer with additional capabilities in Python for web scarping and data analysis. He has a passion for web development in all forms. He enjoys tinkering with CSS and can turn mockups into a reality using HTML and CSS. Previously Kevin worked for a Thailand based company Envisage dealing with anti-human trafficking and peace-related issues in the region. There, he leveraged technology in order to help grassroots NGOs as well as larger organizations better understand the trafficking situation in Thailand and peace process in Myanmar. During his time at Envisage, he mainly employed SQL based visualization tool Sentinel Visualizer, but also worked with other visualization tools such as KUMU, Visual Understanding Environment (VUE), and Google Earth. Also crucial to his position was the use of Microsoft Excel and Python (Natural Language Toolkit, BeautifulSoup4, spaCy) for data cleaning and analysis. Prior to graduation, Kevin was a member of the Mercyhurst Anti-Human Trafficking Intelligence Cell which provided analysis based on the ad-hoc requirements of an NGO partnered with Mercyhurst. He also interned for an NGO where he prepared a comprehensive human trafficking report along with a colleague.
