About Kevin Simpson

I got into this racket to tell stories. Across my career, that skill has taken me to a wide variety of places to report and craft a wide range of narratives. It has allowed me to put readers in the back seat with three storm chasers as they tragically run afoul of a two-mile wide tornado; follow a boy's struggle to adapt to the loss of a leg crushed beneath the wheels of his school bus; chronicle the personal war within a young Army recruit; and dissect the subculture of men who ride raging bulls. Long form writing has been a specialty, but I have bounced among multiple styles, from personal columns to the deadline pressure of daily journalism and the ever greater demands of the digital world. Along the way, I have cultivated editing skills that I try to temper with a writer's empathy. Traditional media - newspapers, magazines and their digital incarnations - have been the focus of my work thus far. But a new challenge presented itself with the founding of The Colorado Sun, and that experience shepherding a startup toward viability has led to an even more varied workload - and one of the most rewarding chapters of a lifelong career.
