I have many years experience as a journalist/producer and as a manager/leader. In this time I’ve innovated & launched new tv programmes, successfully trained teams in TV production, implemented new structures and work flows. I’m editorial confident, creative and passionate about journalism and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Since leaving the BBC I’ve been learning new skills relating to AI and podcasting. I’m also reaching out to comms teams. At the BBC I worked on a range of digital, tv and audio output including The Today Programme, Panorama and Newsnight along the way learning new production and people skills from a fantastic range of people. I've been a reporter for many years, a output editor and field producer but also mentoring newer colleagues/journalist. I’ve travelled extensively and worked in the BBC’s bureaus in Washington, Islamabad and Brussels. One of my career highlights has been to be appointed as editor at the BBC World Service in what was called “New TV” on a project to launch television programmes for new markets in Asia and Africa. Primarily, I was launch editor Urdu TV and deeply involved in developing every aspect of the project: recruiting and training teams; introducing new work flows as well as innovating the programme format and content. A great part of my career at the BBC has been at BBC World TV, where for over a decade I've had various roles from reporting to leading teams as assistant editor, outputting programmes as senior producer, and in the field. I’ve covered the major stories of the last two decades including 9/11, Gulf War, the Kashmir earthquake, Benazir Bhutto's assassination. I've travelled to many parts of the world to cover breaking news and make progammes and also had stints based in BBC bureaus in Washington, Islamabad and Singapore. For me the time as a a BBC reporter for several years was the probably most thrilling and memorable. I worked across a range of output but mainly on World TV and the BBC News Channel. I was fortunate to cover a plethora of news events from the conclusion of Northern Ireland Peace process to the latest release by some Boy Band! It was an exciting and enjoyable time. But it was working in the regions as a local reporter at BBC Bristol where I really honed my journalism. I’ve also been on attachment with the BBC Academy as a trainer working with journalists and production staff across the U.K.
