About Khumbo Jere

I am a subspecialist urogynaecologist and Head of Urogynaecology at Tygerberg Academic Hospital/Stellenbosch University, as well as a certified Robotic Surgeon and National Proctor on the da Vinci Xi platform. My clinical practice focuses on pelvic floor reconstruction, robotic and laparoscopic surgery, and complex obstetric fistula repair. I hold a PhD in Global Surgery (UCT), where I combined geospatial analysis, maternal health data, and clinical outcomes to advance access to fistula care in Malawi. My work has led to international publications and presentations, contributions to global guidelines (IUGA’s OASIS), and translational research on novel approaches to pelvic floor repair. As a leader and mentor, I founded the MPhil Fellowship in Urogynaecology at Stellenbosch, pioneered the introduction of laparoscopic gynaecology in Namibia, and continue to train surgeons in advanced robotic procedures across South Africa. Looking ahead, my mission is to expand innovation, equity, and global collaboration in women’s health — ensuring that cutting-edge surgical care and training reach women and surgeons in both high- and low-resource settings.
