Hello and welcome to my LinkedIn profile. My name is Kia Thacker and I am an award winning public health professional who is passionate about adolescent health, health equity, social justice and capacity-building. I love my profession and I strongly believe in prevention and as the saying goes,"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!" I enjoy working with young people and helping to empower them to take ownership of their health and make safer and informed healthy decisions. I have over 10 years of experience in the field of public health in the areas of community health education, community mobilization, sexual and reproductive health. I am very proficient at partnership development, conceptualizing prevention models, planning community health programs and coaching others through the program planning and implementation process. I previously won an award from the United Way of Gaston County for my outstanding prevention work in my community. I'm knowledgeable of many public health strategies, models, theories and resources. I'm very proficient in effective substance abuse prevention and sexual health education interventions, programs and best practices.
