About Kiara Baker

I was raised in South Africa, where I completed my schooling at Dainfern College in Johannesburg. I was fortunate enough to have personal interactions with legal professionals which inspired me to pursue a career in law. I especially learnt a great deal from shadowing the prosecutor during the Oscar Pistorius murder trial, Gerrie Nel. I also shadowed Rod Harper who is a member of the International Bar Association for Labour Law. I believe that my affinity with the law stems from these first hand experiences with the profession. I completed a Law & Criminology Degree at Cardiff University, graduating with a 2:1 result. During my time at University, I worked in several Bars in Cardiff which I thoroughly enjoyed. Shortly before I graduated in July 2022, I accepted a job offer with Simpson Solicitors in Cardiff as a Legal Advisor specializing in Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney. About 6 months into this position; I accepted a job offer with the London Metropolitan Police. My degree in Criminology no doubt sparked an interest in the career of Policing. I initially accepted the role as a Trainee Detective but have since switched to the role of Police Constable as I feel it would be more beneficial to my career to spend my time in uniform and gain the skills that this position offers.
