About Kiera Lathan

I'm very interested in pursuing a career in biotech and pharmaceutical research. There is always something new to be learned, even in what may seem to be failures. It is a constant learning experience, and that is what I really enjoy. For the past two years I have been working in the Dr. Katherine Hoffmann, Ph. D research lab as a student researcher. In this lab, my goal is to describe the binding and kinetics of the protein DesD using isothermal titration calorimetry. The protein belongs to the NRPS Independent Siderophore (NIS) sythetase family. In the lab, I perform cell transformation, protein overexpression, and protein purification. The ultimate goal of the lab is to design and develop an antibiotic that targets the NIS synthetase family. I enjoy working with others as a team in order to find the answers to challenging problems. I pride myself on attention to detail, and all around neatness of my lab notebooks.
