About Kiera Malone

I was diagnosed with type one diabetes when I was two years old, so I have been interested in human health for as long as I can remember. I wholly contribute my interest in scientific research to this diagnosis, because from an early age I became interested in the mechanisms behind human disease. Currently, in the Glass Lab at the University of Vermont, we are using structural biology techniques and biophysical techniques like X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) to try and understand how chromatin interaction domain-containing proteins interact with their ligands. My long term goal is to use the skills gained while becoming an independent researcher during my PhD to develop affordable drug therapies targeting the molecular mechanisms driving human disease.
