About Kieran Young

A newly retired veteran looking to make a career change into Human Resources. With years of experience within 3 different military divisions, across 2 countries, I have had an extremely successful career as a military musician. I have been able to take my passions and make them into a career and I am excited to do the same within the realm of Human Resources! Gaining experience and knowledge in leadership skills, instructing capabilities, and highly detailed administrative work has been an additional benefit of working for such diverse organizations. I have been able to use my opportunities in instructing and leadership to further my passion for sports, music, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEI & B). These opportunities allowed me to not only play hockey at the highest military level and win 2 championships, but also coach the women's team to the first ever championship title for women's hockey in the UK Armed Forces. In addition, I was able to progress through the levels of DEI & B to becoming a facilitator and lead advisor within RAF Music which led to the first ever reverse mentoring session; bringing people's concerns directly to the Principal Director of Music to help encourage meaningful change within the organization. I've more recently been able to bring my instructing and coaching passion back to Canada and am highly involved within youth hockey, coaching a U15 girls hockey team. I aim to inspire those learning the game to find their love, passion, and determination to thrive within the sport.
