About Kim Dill

I enjoy many aspects of meteorology and atmospheric science from fundamental research and programming to forecasting and application-specific algorithm design for decision support tools. My passion is at the intersection of meteorology and space launch including the impacts of weather on vehicle design, day of launch operations, launch commit criteria, and safety operations. I have worked with both private and public space launch entities to address weather concerns surrounding these focus areas using real-time ground-based and spaceborne observations, high-resolution models, and climatological reanalysis data. My M.S. research was centered around satellite remote sensing of warm season precipitation in regions of complex terrain using the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Precipitation Radar (PR). The study involved analyzing multiple environmental variables and parameters to determine the controls that demonstrated the greatest universal influence over precipitation in mountainous regions. My Ph.D. research is focused on satellite retrievals of cold season precipitation and how that correlates to ground-based observations.
