About Kim Kavanagh

I'm excited to be back as a Career Specialist at BCIT supporting students and alumni take their next professional steps. As a Career Advisor, I acted a 'help desk' assisting clients with their career exploration and job search. I facilitated a variety of workshops - from resume and cover letter writing to job search strategies and interview skills. I also provided one-on-one support for clients who come to our centre connecting them to the resources and services they needed. These services included vocational counselling, access to labour market information, assessment and community supports. With my background as a Human Resources (HR) professional I have extensive experience taking ‘people’ strategies to the next level. Specifically, I have knowledge and skills in HR advising, career program management, curriculum design and development, recruitment, facilitation, public speaking and writing. My work as Manager, Communications provided me an opportunity to expand my horizons by gaining experience in both internal and external communications ranging from keeping team members informed on internal sites and supporting events with strategic communications for senior leaders to social media community management. I’ve led and successfully implemented many strategic HR projects, large and small in scope, and managed ongoing workforce-critical career development programs. I believe a key to my success is being able to see the ‘big picture’, translate it into manageable deliverables and take care of all the details. I’m a serial list-maker! Colleagues know me as a collaborator and someone who is keen to roll up my sleeves and make things happen. I’m energized by helping people and organizations find solutions and move forward. I’ve done this throughout my career by designing and delivering great learning experiences (leader-led and online), managing projects and programs from start to finish with vision and tenacity, building trusted relationships within and outside the company and by meeting my commitments with integrity.
