Like leaving a former chrysalis behind, the motherhood journey involves becoming a new person. How you see yourself changes, your relationships change and what you think is important in life changes. It is only to be expected that women face this unfolding in their lives with excitement, but also trepidation at the enormity of what is required in taking on this new role. As a Doula over decades, and a Birth Educator in a hospital setting, I have had the privilege of accompanying hundreds of women along their motherhood journey and while each is unique there are common threads that join them together. These journeys were often filled with unexpected challenges for which they found themselves unprepared. Their journey also became my own journey of discovery as I have grown in learning how to identify their needs and help make their way easier.
