About Kim Lute

Award-winning former TV journalist and writer whose work has appeared in The Guardian, The New York Times, Newsweek, The Washington Post’s Root Magazine, The Huffington Post, The Atlantan and The Atlanta Journal Constitution among many others. As a CNN TV producer for 13 years, Lute is adept at creating informed, forward-thinking subject matter, while thriving under the immediacy of unforgiving deadlines. She received an Alfred I. DuPont Columbia Award for coverage of the South Asian tsunami disaster, and a George Foster Peabody Award for exceptional coverage of Hurricane Katrina. She co-produced CNN Connects: The New South Africa, which won the National Association of Black Journalists Salute to Excellence Award in 2007. A year later, Lute co-produced the much-heralded documentary “We Have Autism,” which won the 2009 New York Festivals Bronze World Medal Award. And in 2010, she won her second George Foster Peabody Award for exceptional coverage of the Gulf Oil Spill. In 2016 Lute was invited to become a member of the press corps for the Institute for Policy Research in Washington, D.C. Following her successful broadcast career, Lute transitioned to print journalism. Several of Lute’s cultural commentaries have earned national and international attention. In 2015, she was featured on Canada’s, The Dr. Vibe Show to discuss her celebrated piece, “What America Owes Blacks,” which came on the heels of her viral essay, “Time to Pay the Price for Slavery.” And her much-lauded Newsweek essay, “The Picture of Health” was later included in Steps to Writing Well with Additional Readings, a college textbook written by Jean Wyrick. Further, Lute contributed an essay for the anthology, Good Dogs Doing Good, which was published by The Healing Project in 2009. Lute is currently signed to the Pande Literary Agency in Harlem, NY, where her first non-fiction title is being represented.
