About Kim Monteith

I have a passion for improving the lives of animals and people. I've dedicated over two decades to finding innovative solutions and fostering compassion for animals and people. Shelter Management In my role, I've been at the forefront of implementing and enhancing animal management systems. I played a pivotal role in incorporating the Canadian Standards of Care in Animal Shelters and Capacity for Care into the operations of the BC SPCA. I’ve designed intake and management systems for large-scale animal intake operations. Addressing challenges that come with the intake of large groups of animals from hoarding, cruelty seizures and emergency evacuations. Educator and Course Developer As an educator and course developer for Learning Management Systems and in-person training, I equip shelter staff, management, and volunteers with the knowledge and skills needed for animal care. ‍ Training and Support for Shelter Teams I specialize in training staff, investigators and volunteers on in-shelter care, handling, enrichment, and behaviour modification. Supporting management in pathway planning and behaviour decision making to ensure ethical and compassionate choices are made for the well-being of animals within shelters. Community Outreach Beyond shelters, I've developed and led community outreach programs for over 24 years. Including managing and leading a pet food bank for 21 years, and volunteer-run free veterinary clinic for 15 years. My commitment to supporting people facing challenges and barriers includes providing free dog training and pet care advice. Innovative Emergency Shelters In times of crisis, I setup and designed emergency pop-up shelters. Developing protocols, and management processes that allowed people evacuated due to wildfires to leave their pets in a safe environment.Join me on a journey to create a brighter future for animals and the people who care for them.
