Background
About Kimberly Clark
Kimberly Clark, has had a passion for the Thoroughbred for a lifetime. For 25 years she galloped, trained and owned Thoroughbred racehorses at Maryland Tracks. Kimberly learned to gallop racehorses from the great steeplechase rider John Bosley and went on to the track with Ann Merryman. a second generation horseman. Working at Pimlico Racecourse for most of her racing career, before settling at Leighton Farm to begin her new venture in retraining retiring racehorses for new careers in 2007."When horses leave the track they know how to walk, trot and canter. They are used to being handled and cared for. They expect to be ridden each day. With that in mind, I begin their retraining immediately. Most horses are happier that way. It's normal for me to get on them the first day they arrive here - as long as they are not suffering from any physical problems. Some may need a bit of rest/vacation time, but I have found most are much happier if they go right into a new training regimen, even if it is very short and light work. At the onset, I hack horses much of the time, slowly adding work in the arena.""I focus on the fundamentals of relaxation, balance, straightness and rhythm creating a solid foundation for any discipline." Kimberly and Leighton Farm have a special commitment to Thoroughbreds. Exhibiting a benevolent passion for them by creating the charity organization, Thoroughbred Placement Resources, Inc. Maryland tracks have no retirement program and in order to aid these horses the 501(c)(3) charity was created. Kimberly wrote the book "New Track, New Life" which describes in detail the life of the horse at the track and then how to successfully transition them to new disciplines. It is currently being developed into a dvd series.
