Background
About Kimberly Greene Angle
After her hire as Assistant Professor at Montreat College in 2007, Dr. Kimberly Angle directed the Creative Writing Program and developed new courses in Outdoor/Nature Writing; The Writing Process; and Writing Children’s Literature. She achieved tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in 2014. She was selected to Chair the English Department in 2012. Along with her impact in the classroom as a professor, Angle founded and directed the Montreat Creative Writing Festival from 2007-2022. This community outreach initiative attracted over 150 young writers to campus annually to be inspired in workshops while celebrating their writing achievements with a luncheon, open mic, and writing contest awards ceremony. From 2010-2022, Angle directed the college's accreditation QEP, The Camaraderie of Writers, which was recognized for excellence by SACSCOC. In this across-the-disciplines initiative, Angle worked in collaboration with professors campuswide to create a culture of "learning through writing" and cultivate self-efficacy through Communication Coaching Techniques at Montreat College. She prepared annual Faculty Development Workshops to sustain the quality and effectiveness of this program. She also annually hired, trained, and mentored 25 student Writing Scholars to serve as tutors and mentors for their peers. During her first decade at Montreat, Angle also worked collaboratively with her colleagues to design an Honors Program that started in 2013. Angle was integral to recruiting the current Program Director (DPhil in History, University of Oxford). In 2018, Angle was awarded Montreat College's Distinguished Professor Award. In 2019-2020, she was awarded Sabbatical Leave to write and research Flannery O'Connor in Savannah. Upon return to campus, she was elected Chair of the Executive Committee and selected as Chair of Humanities. She achieved promotion to Full Professor in Spring 2021. Along with presenting her work at multiple academic conferences and conducting curricular, pedagogical, and writing workshops on and off campus, Angle’s writing has been published or anthologized in literary journals, magazines, blogs, and books including Crossroads: A Southern Culture Annual, The Chattahoochee Review, South Carolina Wildlife, The Flannery O’Connor Bulletin, Weavings: A Journal of the Christian Spiritual Life, among others. Kimberly Greene Angle’s novel, Hummingbird (Farrar, Straus, & Giroux: New York), was nominated for the Georgia Children’s Book Award.
