About Kimberly Kolner

Kim’s passion for planning came at a young age witnessing her father’s involvement in real estate and county planning commissions. After high school Kim spent a year as a Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Brussels, Belgium where she was able to travel through out Europe to study history, culture, architecture, and city structure. At the University of Illinois she studied Urban and Regional Planning. She also participated as the Advisory Committee Chair for the Career Center and member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors as apart of Student Alumni Ambassadors. Kim interned at a real estate firm and two municipalities working in grants management and community development. Upon graduation Kim took a job with the City of McHenry as their City Planner. She worked with builders to facilitate new development and drafted 3 long-range plans. Kim worked as Planner for Allen L. Kracower & Ass. a private consulting firm that specializes in Land Use Litigation. She then got back to the public sector by accepting a position with McHenry County as an Associate Planner. Kim is a strategic planner big thinker complex problem solver and adept decision maker. She strives to have balance in all outcomes. She is always open-minded to new evidence and ideas. Kim is flexible to changing situations. She is ambitious, self-confident, deliberate, and a long-range thinker. Kim is a natural leader but usually steps forward only when she sees a real need to take over the lead. She is able to objectively see the reality of a situation. Kim reaches her true potential when working on tasks that allow for slow and careful thinking rather than fact accurate responding. Kim enjoys the sociological aspects of planning & brings a different prospective because of her experiences living abroad.
