About Kimberly van

I graduated from the University of Texas in San Antonio with a Bachelor's degree in Business Statistics with a certificate in Supply Chain & Operations and a certificate in Secondary Marketing Research. After graduating, I started with Union Pacific Railroad in the Transportation department as a Terminal Manager in the San Antonio complex covering South San Antonio Yard, Kirby Yard, and East Yard. I later moved to Omaha, Nebraska to gain cross-departmental experience in the Operating department where I widened my scope of the railroad network through dispatching. My abilities and knowledge grew when I got the opportunity to work in the Real Estate department for Union Pacific Railroad. There, I gained an understanding of railroad right of ways measurements & procedures, developed a relationship with the engineering department and built my skillset in legal contract agreements with rail customers. Missing more of the action-packed feeling of day-to-day operations, I made my way back to the Harriman Dispatch Center as a Passenger Operations Corridor Manager. It opened many opportunities to view the rail network from a bigger picture and required strong decision-making abilities to ensure priority passenger train service experienced minimal delays on the UPRR rail network across 23 states. I've now taken on the great opportunity to expand my operational knowledge by gaining hump yard experience with CSX Transportation as a Manager of Train Operations at Radnor Yard in Nashville, TN. I was then promoted over to Manager of Grain & Bulk Operations in the dispatch center in Jacksonville, FL where I’ve been fortunate to learn the entirety of CSX territory that operates extensively across east of the Mississippi River along the entire east coast of the U.S. I work directly with a vast multitude of rail customers between grain, ethanol, crude oil, rock, and all other bulk commodities to provide efficient rail services. I work collaboratively with the field managers across the entire CSX network & our dispatching center to foster a healthy cross-departmental relationship to provide transparency and cooperation to our customers and identifying business opportunities where available with the commercial team.
