About Kirk MacGibbon

Kirk has over 15 years communications experience, working across a number of sectors and in various roles. He has variously been a writer and researcher, senior account director with two international public relations companies, lobbyist, communications manager and projects manager. His experience spans in-house, consultancy and independent contracting roles. For eight of the past nine years Kirk has immersed himself in 'Te Ao Maori'(the Maori world). His 'hikoi'(journey) began as a communications advisor to Waikato Tainui Te Kauhanganui Inc, the tribal administration arm of the Waikato iwi, and from 2012-2015 he was Projects Manager with the Office of the Maori King. A contract with the Office of Treaty Settlements followed before he headed south in 2015 to join Ngati Apa ki te Ra To as Communications & Engagement Manager. He has studied te reo Maori for four years and has a network of contacts in the highest levels of Maoridom. In the course of his career he worked on some of New Zealand's largest social marketing campaigns, won a number of PRINZ (public relations) awards, and been involved in building some of this country's most exciting brands. Kirk has always sought and embraced new challenges and has a track record of successfully developing strategies to achieve business and organisational outcomes.
