About Kirk Whelan

I am a professional engineer with more than twelve (12) years of experience. Having primarily worked in the oil and gas industry and industrial construction projects for the first half of my career, my career trajectory took a different path in more recent years. Since 2017 my project management skills have been put to use leading projects at airports and health care facilities. Currently in my role as a Project Engineer with Newfoundland & Labrador Health Services, I'm involved with capital works projects at various acute care and long term care facilities. This involves scope definition through to detailed engineering including procurement, fabrication, construction support, and commissioning. A big component of working in this environment is infection control, since these projects are occurring in an operational hospital. As a result I've completed several different training courses to ensure I'm familiar with all the hazards this may entail. In addition to my passion for improving the condition of our many health care facilities, I'm also keenly interested in energy efficiency and green conversion projects. I've been fortunate in my current role to encounter several projects that combine both mandates.
