About Kiu Coates

The quality of communication determines the quality of relationships and the effectiveness of our collaboration. Since 2015 my work has been developing cultures of empathic and sincere communication that have brought significant breakthroughs to relationships, teams, organisations, and networks. This can all sound quite jargony so I have highlighted some primary methods and key outcomes of my work Reinvented the performance appraisal system and trained 800 leaders in giving and receiving feedback for Oi, the largest Telecoms company in Brazil. 92% of staff reported feeling more engaged by the changes in their leader's approach- Supported five teams around the world to engage a diversity of local food systems stakeholders and design participative gatherings that led to the emergence of 10 multi-stakeholder action teams committed to increasing food security and equity. Facilitated core team in developing clear roles and responsibilities. Mediated a conversation between parents, teachers and school directors and supported them to design a creative childcare support system that allowed teachers to go on strike and still provide parents with childcare support. Supported leaders of a national network of voluntary community orchards to distil their collective experiences into a best practices booklet that became the foundation for how they facilitate group dynamics needed for thriving local groups In addition to my organisational work I have been a yoga instructor and facilitated a network of nonviolent communication practice groups for the general public and within the Favelas of Rio de Janeiro.
