About Koby Lerner

Hi, my name is Koby Lerner, and I am a financial advisor with Raymond James Ltd. Before I talk more about myself, I would like to share why I decided to become a financial advisor. My father started working at the age of 14. He worked hard doing various jobs, including being a sailor and a factory worker. His parents did not teach him any financial literacy, his school taught him nothing about money, and the government did not bother to provide any education. My father was a hard-working middle-class person working long hours to provide for my siblings and me. His employer provided him with a pension plan which he always contributed to. Two years before his retirement, the pension company that administered his retirement fund had bankrupt and had to be bailed out by the government. The unfortunate part was that they did it on a 40 cents-on-the-dollar basis, which left my father with a pension that was less than half of what it was supposed to be. The outcome of this unfortunate life-changing curveball was that my dad could not fully retire at 65. After he completed his full-time employment, he was forced to find occasional part-time work to pay for his monthly obligations. Luckily my siblings and I are fortunate to be able to support him financially so he can somewhat enjoy his retirement years. Watching what happened to my dad taught me that life can always throw an unpredicted curve ball at you. Also, getting the wrong financial advice can have a huge impact on your retirement savings and a severe impact on your retirement. My mission is to help Canadians achieve a better retirement for themselves and their families by better managing their investments and retirement savings. It is not okay to see Canadians choose inadequate investment strategies or, worse, not take advantage of various tax strategies resulting in them over-paying thousands of dollars. I believe the government should have taught Canadians how to be more diligent with their savings! Ordinary people who have been working hard their whole lives should have more knowledge and tools available to them so they can enjoy the retirement they worked so hard to achieve!
