About Konrad Malawski

I focused my career on building high performance, clustered distributed systems and concurrency runtimes. This includes language design and implementation, and community building aspects such that language/library ecosystem enjoy a steady growth for years to come. Currently part of the Swift language team at Apple, responsible for the concurrency runtime (including actors, distributed actors and structured concurrency primitives), as well as server-ecosystem growth and telemetry libraries such as logging / metrics / tracing. Previously: Senior Engineer on Lightbend's core Akka Team, responsible for all core concurrency and clustering modules. Participated in the Reactive Streams initiative which eventually resulted in the inclusion in the Java standard library as the j.u.c.Flow types. I developed the Technology Compatibility Kit (incl. helping various implementations implement correct RS libraries, and consult other ecosystems about RS adoption/inspiration). For a while I was the lead maintainer the Akka HTTP server and pushed it to it's final stable release. Also capable of leading team and cross-team projects, planning roadmaps and what to leave *off* such release plans. Experienced in navigating corporate structures (e.g. Apple, eBay) as well as delivering in fast-paced small agile startups (e.g. SoftwareMill). Other notable contributions- Java Champion - Creator of multiple "core" sbt plugins the Scala community has come to rely on, e.g. sbt-jmh - Member of the Scala Library Improvement Process, representing the concurrency and performance side of the community - Core member of the GeeCON conference leadership team - Top rated speaker at well known conferences such as JavaOne (awarded "Rock Star" award), JFokus, Devoxx and various other conferences, across Europe, the US and Asia- Founded and led (still leading) various user groups, including the GDG Kraków, Kraków Scala User Group, Software Craftsmanship Kraków (the computer science whitepaper reading club) well as the Polish Java User Group- Actively contributing and maintaining various open source projects. And helping others become successful in those domains.
