Summary of areas of interest- Semantic and action influences on perception- Perceptual - motor interactions and their neural substrates- Visual memory / Scene representations and their organisation- Attention and its role in memory encoding- Action affordances & action semantics in typical and clinical populations. My approach uses various experimental designs, from computer-based and behavioural tasks to psychophysics and eye-movements recordings (experience with desk- and head-mounted eye-trackers, Eye-Link and Both abstract arrays of objects and real world scenes have been used in my research paradigms. Although one of the main components of my research is eye-tracking in naturalistic scenes, there are a number of other influences as well. I am interested in the neural substrates of the interactions between perception and action systems in the brain. I am also quite interested in the nature and organisation of scene representations. Finally, during my PhD thesis I have also used research paradigms related to the use of spatial language to supplement my approach in discriminating pre-attentive from post-perceptual influences in visual perception. More recently, I became interested in motor processes in typical and clinical populations, to explore the interplay between execution of actions and perception, as implied by the Embodied Cognition Framework. Finally, I also became interested in pinpointing different components of Action Semantics, by exploring various types of body-to-object and object-to-object relations.
