Background
About Kory Wells
As a first-generation scientist, I’ve built my career by learning fast, leading with empathy, and turning complexity into clarity—for patients, students, and peers. I’m a PhD candidate in Cancer Biology with a passion for translational research and scientific impact. My journey began in undergrad, navigating STEM without a roadmap, often told what I couldn’t do. Instead of giving up, I carved my own path—and now help others do the same. What sets me apart is the ability to quickly absorb complex information, apply it hands-on, and then teach or translate it for others. Whether it’s onboarding new lab members, leading experimental design, or helping friends and family understand a cancer diagnosis, I’m driven by making science accessible, actionable, and human. From helping develop novel nanoparticle-based immunotherapies to mentoring students and connecting ideas across disciplines, I take pride in balancing multiple hats: researcher, problem-solver, communicator, and mentor. I’m known for being the person others come to when things feel overwhelming—because I bring clarity, calm, and collaboration to fast-moving environments. Whether I’m in the lab, mentoring in the classroom, or strategizing for impact, my goal is the same: to use science as a tool for empowerment, equity, and better outcomes—for patients, communities, and the next generation of scientists. I’m actively exploring career paths where I can: Translate science into real-world solutions Mentor and uplift future scientists, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds Collaborate across teams and disciplines to drive innovation Improve quality of life through research, communication, and human-centered design Let’s connect if you’re passionate about science that moves, mentors that matter, or innovation with purpose.
