Background
About Kris Frasheri
Hi, I'm Kris Frasheri, an HCI researcher and Software engineer who is passionate about building human-centred AI systems that personalize user experiences and help individuals reflect on their own values. I am results-oriented, value feedback, and love to learn. I recently earned my M.Math in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, where my primary research field was investigating how LLM-personas and conversational agent behaviour can influence user values and decision-making patterns. Throughout my research, I had the opportunity to develop subjective annotation tools that embed self-reflection in AI workflows, pushing forward the domain of generative AI-assisted tools. Before my graduate studies, I worked as a founding member of Flipp's (formerly Reebee's) AI team, where I designed and developed machine learning pipelines that personalized in-app content recommendations for over two million users. There, I led the development of real-time contextual bandit models and A/B testing strategies, helping improve click-through rates and build robust CI/CD systems. With over 4 years of experience in the software engineering field, my expertise spans areas such as ML-driven personalization, scalable backend systems and data-informed experimentation. Today, I work as a sessional lecturer at the University of Waterloo, where I design and deliver curriculum to Computer Science / Software Engineering majors, teaching everything from object-oriented programming and user interface development to computational logic and sequential programs. I thrive on connecting theory with practical examples that resonate with diverse student backgrounds. My personal interests include: technology and business, reinforcement learning in game theory, mentoring (across industries) and contributing to open-source CS education tools. Let’s connect if you’re working on or interested in AI infrastructure, ML operations, or educational tech!
