About Kris Peterson

COL (RET) Kris Peterson graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1987. He entered medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and graduated in 1991. COL Peterson did his internship, residency and fellowship in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center completing his fellowship in 1997. Subsequently he was assigned to Korea at Camp Casey as the Second Infantry Division Psychiatrist. In 1998 he was assigned to Madigan Army Medical Center and started a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service and was chief of that service until 2003. In 2003 he deployed to Iraq with the 98th Combat Stress Control Detachment and was attached to the 101st Airborne Division. Upon returning from Iraq he became Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at Madigan from 2004 until 2012. In 2007 he became the Army Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Consultant. He was the Chief for the Military Issues Committee for AACAP from 2007 until 2012. COL Peterson piloted and designed a strategic center focused on Military Families. He has authored and co-authored scientific papers, “The Long War and Parental Combat Deployment: Effects on Military Children and At-Home Spouses” which received the 2010 Norbert and Charlotte Rieger Award for Scientific Achievement from AACAP. He has published “A Trial of Prazosin for Combat Trauma PTSD With Nightmares in Active-Duty Soldiers Returned from Iraq and Afghanistan” in the American Journal of Psychiatry. He has authored several book chapters on Military Families, and Psychiatrists in Combat. He worked for the Department of Defense until 2018. He currently serves as the Medical Director of Touchstone TMS doing treatment for resistant depression. He continues to work as a civilian psychiatric consultant to the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority and DLH. He continues to champion issues for veterans and their families as well as for underserved mental health populations.
