About Kris Sension

I'm well-organized, creative, and friendly. Plus, I love to help people meet their goals! My leadership experience and love of learning have given me a track record of clear communication in multicultural settings. Starting as an inner-city high school teacher in Chicago, I crossed racial and cultural boundaries to teach English language skills, writing, and literature. I moved from there into teaching adolescents in a behavioral health hospital while working on a master's degree in linguistics. Then eligible to teach ESL and English at the college level, I began my career in higher education. My teaching focused on adult immigrants acclimating to life in the United States, both in Adult Education and college courses. While working for a local community college, I coordinated the Adult Education Program, overseeing free GED, computer skills, community art, and ESL courses. Later, I revised the curriculum for the credit ESL courses and piloted a freshman English composition course with an English-language learning co-requisite. Seeing my initiative to connect ESL and English faculty to help students bridge departments, the college asked me to ensure the institution's compliance with AB705, a state law geared toward accelerated degree completion for ESL students. The pandemic offered an opportunity to transition into a career where I could work remotely and choose my schedule. I am thrilled to be helping students in China and Korea to improve their language conversation skills!
