Administers and coordinates the education and training program for the Veterans Affairs Police Department. Prepares training schedules, coordinates equipment, room availability, and dates and times for on-site training and off-campus drills. Update training curriculum to fit the criteria focused on jurisdiction, level of experience and complications observed. Provide instruction in academic subjects such as law, human diversity, and interpersonal communications. Evaluates employee performance to identify special or additional training requirements. Responds to a variety of law enforcement problems ranging from simple rule violations to felony crimes. Prepares criminal cases for prosecution in coordination with prosecutors. Serves as the primary firearms instructor, active threat response instructor, armorer, expandable baton/O.C. instructor and ground defense & recovery instructor. Assists in planning all departmental training each fiscal year and recertification as scheduled. Participates in the development and implementation of departmental training goals and objectives, policies and procedures, in addition to staying up to date on legal bulletins, newest tactics, and latest trends in law enforcement techniques, practices, and technology. Provides training, advice, guidance, and direction on a wide range of law enforcement and administrative issues. Coordinates with other organization managers, customers, and external law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Develop new training partnerships with external law enforcement agencies. Advises supervisors of significant issues and problems related to work accomplishment. Conducts thorough research to stay abreast of relevant laws and regulations, incorporating findings into policy development and updates. Maintained documentation integrity by regularly reviewing and updating policies to reflect evolving organizational needs and external changes. Demonstrated expertise in crafting reports and memos, communicating policy changes effectively across all levels of the organization. Conducted training sessions for staff on new policies and procedures, ensuring a smooth transition understanding of compliance expectations.
