I discovered programming in my first year of Engineering at Western University. Like many others, the first program I created was "Hello World". I was really amused by such a simple application. By my third programming assignment, I gained so much interest in programming that I started to add more than what was required for the assignments. I started to do assignments as soon as they were released - that's when I realized that I really enjoyed programming. By the end of first year, we had to rank our choice of Engineering programs for second year and to this date, I've never regretted choosing Software Engineering as my first choice. In third year, I developed a strong interest in web technologies after we were assigned a project which required creating an Angular 2 application from scratch with minimal resources (Angular 2 was newly released during the time). After developing a MEAN stack application on my own, I decided to pursue web application development - more specifically a full-stack developer role. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a full-stack developer role for my internship after end of third year. I accepted an offer at IBM as a Software Developer in the Performance team of an eCommerce web application. I made the most of my time at IBM by learning how performance is impacted in a web application alongside developing test automation tools to make life easier for my team. Finally, after graduation, I was offered a Software Developer position in a rotational program at D2L. This gave me the opportunity to expand my knowledge in various fields of software development and figure out what I really enjoyed the most. And I was right about full-stack development!
