About Kristen Mok

Kristen Mok is a Senior at UC Davis studying Sociology - Organizational Studies with minors in Public Health Sciences and Anthropology - Global Human Health. After taking a couple classes in medical anthropology, their spark for public health began, and their particular interest in the way health and illness is understood, felt, and shaped has only grown stronger since then. Kristen has spent years exploring different sectors of health, having volunteered 500+ hours as an Athletic Trainer Aide. Their first glimpse into food accessibility started as a Kitchen Volunteer at Project Angel Food, where they prepared and packaged meals for people with chronic illnesses. While in college, they learned about on-campus accessibility issues for students with temporary/permanent disabilities through their job as a Mobility Assistance Shuttle Driver, and their experience with community work continues to develop through organizing menstrual product donation drives with Davis Period. Their dive into policy at the California Education Lab has built strong qualitative coding skills and sharpened their attention to detail, in addition to their ability to maintain a high level of focus over a long period of time. They are currently assisting in investigating the challenges of reimbursing doulas through Medicaid, which has solidified their passion and enthusiasm in finding equitable healthcare practices to combat health disparities in the US.
